Due to our extensive knowledge and experience with equipment foundations, East & Westbrook was selected to replace an existing track bed and sub-surface drainage for a coal stacker in a 2,200-megawatt coal-burning electrical power plant during a scheduled outage.
The existing track bed was approximately 1,200 linear feet which supported a 1.6 million pound stacking/conveying machine riding railroad ties and crane rails. The plant was spending a significant amount to routinely maintain and re-align tracks horizontally and vertically. Our charge was to locate the stacker to the near end of the rail line and systematically replace the subgrade drainage piping and install a 3’ thick x 45’ wide cast-in-place concrete equipment foundation with crane rails bolted to the surface, aligned, and epoxy grout. This included the installation of a temporary belt tensioning tower, re-work of temporary controls, conveyor belt structure, and all existing wash down piping. This work was successfully completed 3 weeks ahead of the originally scheduled shut-down with no impact on electrical power production for the facility.
