Careful planning, strong communication, and an emphasis on safety helped East & Westbrook when they served as a general contractor for a repeat client, completing construction on a 63,000 sq ft whiskey barrel storage facility on a tight timeline.
A longstanding client of East & Westbrook (E&W) came to E&W with their largest project to date: serving as General Contractor for a 63,000 sq ft whiskey barrel storage facility. The client had a tight deadline of 7 months and they needed the highest-quality construction possible to ensure their production could continue without interruption.
After a 15-year working relationship with E&W, including multiple specialized whiskey barrel storage warehouse builds in Kentucky and Tennessee, the client knew that the general contracting team at E&W was up for the challenge.
E&W's primary strength as a General Contractor is developing and using a comprehensive execution plan. For the Tennessee whiskey barrel warehouse build, the site supervisor and project manager coordinated a crew of 8 E&W in-house team members alongside 25 subcontractors.
Careful scheduling and regular review of work completed allowed the site supervisor to keep work running smoothly; all crew members knew what they should be doing, when, and where, so there were no interruptions or delays.
E&W was not only able to complete the foundation pour two weeks ahead of schedule, but their teams also effectively pivoted around multiple challenges to stay on schedule. Severe winter weather meant the site supervisor and project manager had to communicate new plans to all teams as well as the client to ensure construction could continue safely. Also, when a supplier delivered materials that failed quality inspection, the project manager stepped in to coordinate delivery of new, higher quality materials to maintain E&W’s high construction standards.
Due to this careful planning and active management of the project timelines, E&W was able to complete the warehouse on schedule and within budget. E&W maintained consistent communication with the client, apprising them of the work progress throughout.
Whiskey barrel storage facilities require detailed knowledge of building automation systems and alcohol and humidity level monitoring systems, and E&W prioritized quality control and quality assurance for every step of the project to ensure the client received the highest quality construction work possible.
