Cemex Bridge Project
E&W Completes Design-Build Bridge for Cement Plant
A section of the client’s service access road from their river operation to their main campus had to be closed because a bridge that had been installed in 1933 was no longer serviceable. As changing business needs required that the road be reopened to traffic, they called East and Westbrook to provide a solution.
East and Westbrook was able to provide a comprehensive solution that involved the removal of the existing bridge and the design, fabrication and installation of a new clear span bridge in its place. This area is considered a natural habitat to at least two endangered species of wildlife so the project involved a close coordination with environmental agencies to ensure that the construction did not affect their surroundings. The project was also in a flood plain, so it was necessary to work closely with the Division of Water, U.S. Army COE and MSD.
